This is an area always subject to change and therefore we at EF&Partners Art Consulting cannot introduce and discuss this subject without first analysing the effects of globalisation on the art market. The amount of information available through the internet regarding worldwide auctions, or valuations by country, location, artist, genre, galleries or individuals can be overwhelming. Information and records that should be there to support investors, can in reality create a tendency to speculate in the short term, which can be especially prejudicial in the art market. We believe, however, that it is possible to draw some conclusions with regard to the effects of the Financial Crisis - what has happened in the market since 2001 and also what has aggravated the situation since 2005 - on the art market. If the fall of the stock markets has diminished the numbers of ‘wealthy investors’ in the art market, it is also evident that many people remain interested in investing in art, some for the first time and many successfully. We don’t want to bamboozle you with a myriad of graphics! That has already been done ad infinitum by other international specialist institutions. Instead, we would like to reinforce the message that within the art market it remains possible to buy and sell securely and with prudence at this time in a way that can produce a valuable and appreciating asset. Dealing in individual art pieces is different from dealing on the stock market or trading in other areas, but this very individuality is the driving force within the Art Market. The difficulty in obtaining finance from banks or other lending institutions at this time is, however, a very real issue. To help overcome this EF&Partners Art Consulting have initiated contacts with various credit institutions that are open to investing in art and, while recognising the risks, consider that these investments are worthwhile and valuable when considered intelligently. If you would like further information on finding finance for art investment, please contact us and we can discuss your individual requirements. |
